Counter Logic Gaming

The original League of Legends powerhouse, Counter Logic Gaming crushed all competition during the infancy of LoL esports. However, they have failed to secure major tournament victories in a long time. While each season has heralded their "new potential", CLG has consistently managed to play second fiddle to TSM and Cloud9. Once again they move into a new season with a stronger roster; can their potential be realized?

Team History

Counter Logic Gaming is one of the oldest teams in the League of Legends competitive scene. Beginning as a small group of friends with a passion for the game, they went on to win WCG 2010, one of the largest tournaments at the time. Since then, CLG has struggled to make it back to the top of LAN events. Several top players such as Cody "Elementz" Sigfusson, Brandon "Saintvicious" DiMarco, Joedat "Voyboy" Esfahani, and Choi "Locodoco" Yoon-sub have passed through their ranks and moved onto other top teams.

Over the past two NA LCS splits, CLG fell down to the middle of the pack, dropping into relegation matches for spring, and narrowly avoiding the same fate in summer. With new coach Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, CLG solidified themselves as a top three team in NA, even after early season visa issues with Dexter caused a slew of mixed performances with various substitutes. By the end of the split, CLG was firmly capable of beating any team on any given day, finishing in third place in the playoffs. Following the spring split, top laner Nien decided to step away from CLG, leaving a void in the top lane that has yet to be officially filled. Though consistency remains an issue, their best games revealed a CLG who may have finally reached their full potential. However, communication issues at the end of the summer split caused them to tank all the way to relegation. After fighting back from a 0-2 start against Curse Academy, they retained their LCS spot in a 3-2 come-from-behind. With a new jungler and top laner, can their potential finally be realized?
